Our founder Jarrod Goldsmith is a professional saxophone player himself who launched Sax Appeal in 2011, having been playing and studying the instrument since 1986. Not only has he performed with many of the outstanding musicians we work with, he also knows the industry, and most venues around Ottawa, better than most. Known by his signature fedora, Jarrod Goldsmith is a Canadian small business community builder, avid networker, YouTuber, podcaster, and is the embodiment of the small business spirit. He is one of Ottawa’s most recognized small business leaders – a passionate advocate for arts, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.
Besides being an accomplished musician and business owner, he ran a strong campaign for Ottawa City Council in the October 2018 municipal elections. Since 2024, Jarrod has held the prestigious position as President of the historic Kiwanis Club of Ottawa.
He also sits on the Ottawa Board of Trade Small Business Council, the Algonquin College Events Management Program Advisory Committee, and can be found attending and speaking at events all around the city rocking his signature black fedora. Jarrod is one of the region’s best known entrepreneurial networkers.
Jarrod has been playing and studying the saxophone since 1986.
Originally from Montreal, Jarrod began playing professionally in High School and joined the CJAD All Star City Big Band under the direction of Denny Christianson. He soon began studying with the late esteemed saxophone Professor Gerald Danovitch at McGill University, where he completed a BA Honors degree in archaeology/anthropology and played in numerous McGill ensembles.
Jarrod continued his studies earning a Masters degree in archaeology at the University of Alberta. During this time, he joined the University of Alberta ‘Jazz Band 1’, played in various bands around town, and was performing every weekend with a hi-octane Latin band called ‘Orchestra Energia’ that saw him gigging throughout Western Canada
Upon moving to Ottawa in 2002, he quickly became a regular in the Ottawa / Gatineau music scene.
In 2011, he founded Sax Appeal – a bold idea that grew from a relatively unknown saxophone quartet ensemble setting, into a widely respected live music production agency representing hundreds of professional musicians.
Jarrod has traveled extensively pursuing both music and archaeology across North America, as well as overseas in Japan, South Korea, Israel, and throughout Europe, blending his love of music and archaeology with a talent for bringing people together. Jarrod is an extremely enthusiastic and dedicated communications professional who knows what it takes to make your occasion absolutely shine.
